tonight jason and i are watching the scripps national spelling bee. one of the girls said her favorite word is kakistocracy. it is now one of my favorite words.
etymology: greek (but jen knew that)
in a sentence: george bush and his cronies are living proof that americans are under the rule of a kakistocracy.
first read this article.
then reread the last sentence.
"Superstitions are widespread in India, especially in rural areas where an ineffectual schooling system has left millions illiterate and uneducated."
i cannot believe a reuters employee got away with being so haughty and condescending. americans must also be illiterate and uneducated.
- hotels without 13th floor
- step on a crack, break your mother's back
- black cats crossing your path
- throwing salt over your shoulder
- no opening umbrellas indoors
- don't walk under a ladder
- see a penny, pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck
even though this week is a 4 day week, i am so glad it's thursday. hopefully i will have something more exciting to say tomorrow. we're going to see hans klok and pamela anderson. should be interesting...
i always save a lot of money at the grocery store. my mother taught me well. today i spent $123. with the club card and my coupons, i saved $66. that is over 53% and it's my best yet.
the butcher at my store is creepy though. after he wrapped up my chicken, he followed me through the meat section and tried to make conversation as i perused the ground turkey. eew! obviously jason will have to go with me to the grocery store every time now.
i made some wallpapers.
you know who i admire? angelina jolie. i watch her every move. she is captivating.
sure she had a crazy past and did some far out things. hell, so did i. ok i never went as far as to wear a vial of someone else's blood around my neck, but whatever.
what i like about her is that she has transformed herself. she has proven to be altruistic, a family oriented woman, and someone who wants to spend time with the people she loves while helping people she has never met. i don't see anything wrong with this. i admire it. i love that she uses her money and fame to help others. i love that she writes educated position papers and gives speeches for the UNHCR and so we know what's going on outside our borders.
i love that she and her baby daddy gave $1M of their own money to aid refugee camps in darfur.
say what you will - weird, tattooed, homewrecker, etc. but she's still doing more than any of us to bring awareness and healing around the world. and i admire her. i wish i could be doing those things.
i think i'm finally bored with blogging. it only took 4.5 years.
spring has sprung, eh?

the office season finale was VERY good. VERY. any guesses on what's going to happen when jim and pam find out that karen didn't get the job? or how about when michael finds out that ryan is his new boss?
the plot thickens...
(i tear up everytime i watch this clip)
i was just saying the other day that i think i've managed to hold out on several things that all of my friends seem to have caved to. i'm not talking about marriage or kids. i'm talking about suvs and tivos.
i don't see myself buying a gas guzzling road hog any time soon.
but the tivo.... well nbc has moved the office to 9pm on thursdays for the fall, and grey's anatomy remains on abc at 9pm on thursdays. i need a freaking tivo so i can tape grey's. DANGIT. cause my vcr just doesn't like to record digital cable and i don't think i can rationalize paying $15/month for DVR through the cable company... though over 3 years the tivo comes out to about the same price.
gahh! stupid networks! get you hooked and then make you choose. it's so uncool.
ah, but the office season finale is tonight. must concentrate on the positive!
cross-eyed bear
cnjr is home and healthy. she spent the entire night cuddling with me. i'd like to think it's because she is glad to be home and she knows that she feels better after being at the dr. it's more likely because she is thankful for the tuna she is now getting twice a day (she doesn't know there's an antibiotic in it).
so that made my day great yesterday. then lisa called and invited me to go here for a week. NICE. paid for by her work. NICER. thanks lisa. you made my day!!
i am seriously trying not to rejoice, because that would be rude. and i am trying to take the high road today.i can't promise i won't grin tomorrow though.
chuck norris jr is sick again. i took her to the vet this morning and they're keeping her for a few hours to run tests and administer an iv drip. i found out that her dr is no longer at the office. apparently he got a job at a human hospital.
because he's a NEUROSURGEON.
wow. talk about having great doctors on staff. a neurosurgeon operated on my cat to remove the tumor that nearly killed her. hello! everyone should go to my vet. did you hear that randi?

coworker/deadhead: Why would a member of the Grateful Dead be named "Pigpen"?
me: cause they stink dude
me: DUH
found out yesterday that rashida jones is coming back for season 4. that means pam and jim won't be together. *sigh* my toast is so dry without jam.
thanks to judy for sending me this clever clip. happy wednesday everyone!
a lot has been happening lately.
- oprah officially endorsed barack. thank god, he needs the votes.
- the stray cat finally has a collar and rabies vaccination tag. thank god, he needed a home.
- the office season finale is in less than two weeks. thank god, i need karen to leave.
- the pope officially got rid of limbo. thank god, my back needed a break.
- bill ray cyrus was a joke on dancing w/ the stars. thank god, he needs to go home.
saturday we celebrated cinco de mayo by attending the san gennaro italian festival with friends. we feasted on calzones, pizza, seafood, spumoni and cannolis.
and we saw EIGHT mullets. it was very sad.
then we bbqed carne asada for dinner, to really celebrate the cinco... and had homemade cannolis for dessert. because you can never eat too many cannolis.
tonight jason and i are off to the spiderman premiere pre-party at moon, where we get vip, whatever that means. tomorrow night we get to attend a q&a session with stan lee and then see the movie on imax. and the keepsake? a stan lee meets the thing comic book signed by stan lee. yowza. what a start to the weekend.
update: we got back at 3 this morning. moon is pretty cool. you know what's even cooler? the playboy club! i love that place. they did it up right for hef.

i am not sure if this cat is really a stray, but he has no collar, he's not fixed, his white feet are grey from being outside, and he was VERY hungry. yes, i fed him. chuck norris jr has been watching this boy strut up and down the street for the past week. i'm thinking a play date is in store.

my coworker gave me a piece of chocolate gum. yuck. it's like the tootsie roll that wouldn't die. now i know why they did it. hershey's makes bubbleyum. but still, willy wonka never made chocolate gum. he was smarter than that.
so i really didn't know what to say about this. i still don't. i mean, at least nothing i'd let my mother read. and i've said some pretty colorful things in front of her in my years...
a big wazzzzup and hidy ho to my homegirl jen for hosting the first "a friend of mine has a child and i have to go to the bday party" party. i had a nice time. i think the low-key-only-invite-well-behaved-children method definitely worked. as a matter of fact, i am not dreading the next one! thanks jen. i wish you'd been the first one to get married. it may have changed my perspective a bit.
