saw wanted on friday. wowie. angelina jolie never fails to impress when starring in an action flick. i especially liked the editing tricks. fancy matrix-style tricks that combined stop motion techniques with cgi. beautifully done. and angelina is bad ass, doing crazy tricks and combining her lara croft confidence with trinity stealth. the plot even has (gasp) a twist that you may or may not figure out, and then two more surprises at the end. this one is definitely worth seeing on the big screen.
two thumbs up.
jason and i think that everyone is going to go out and try to curve bullets now with their handguns. i say more power to them. natural selection, right?
honoring gwb in a VERY appropriate way. you go, san francisco.
that new tribe found in the amazon? they were first documented in 1910. NICE.
is the high school pregnancy pact also a hoax? or is the community backpedaling? you be the judge.
saw get smart this weekend. i was expecting to see 2 hours of "agent michael scarn" but luckily he didn't surface too often. i think the movie was pretty well done, and i liked how they incorporated things from the tv show even though it took place in the present time - there is even a guest appearance from the show!
overall, a fun summer flick.
*also, this is my 2000th post. woo hoo!
i have never liked shopping at walmart. my disdain goes beyond their cruel and oppressive business practices. their stores are dirty, their lines are long, and their produce is rotten and overpriced.
jason loves "the mart." he refers to it as the one stop shop. he also checks out in the garden area.
now that i am paying for my own health insurance, i am forced to patronize the mart. my rx are ~$100/month total if i get them at walgreens because my insurance does not have good rx benefits. if i get them at the mart and i don't tell them about my insurance, they are $17/month total. why WOULDN'T i go to the mart? now that i am a part-time hourly employee, i can't afford not to.
interestingly, i asked the pharmacist how the mart can sell rx for $4 - $10 each and he told me that they are LOSING money by doing this. they make up the losses by increasing prices elsewhere in the store, assuming people who pick up rx at the mart will buy other stuff. heh. so i am actually HURTING the mart by getting my rx for pennies and then walking right out the door. MWAHAHAHA!
thank god the celtics finally put the lakers out of their misery. i was hoping it would happen in game 5, to be honest. they were playing like shit. public floggings, y'all.
the fact that in 2008, this kind of thing is still happening, is not only embarrassing but sickening. then again, it's texas. and you all know how i feel about texas.
the part of my job i like most is getting to play with the animals. heh heh. i come home with hair all over me, but i like being able to pet the dogs and cats - especially the tiny ones. today we saw a yorkie that was 2.9 pounds and his little face was so sweet. yesterday we saw a pitbull puppy that was so small, he was photographed inside the 4th of july hat instead of wearing it.
we take photos of all pets and keep them in the computer - they print out on the receipts and it's a nice touch. we do themed pics for holidays and when there isn't a holiday coming up, we put hawaiian leis on them. festive!!
today a woman and her daughter brought in an 8 week old kitten. i could see its bones. it was covered in fleas. its breathing was so slow and labored, i knew it had no chance. the drs couldn't save him and he was in so much pain, they said he had to have been sick for over a week and his blood glucose wasn't even registering, meaning he hadn't eaten in way too long. and the woman who brought him in had the nerve to complain about having to pay for the euth. we almost turned her in for abuse. poor little kitten broke my heart.
friday i got to see the coolest thing ever - that pregnant chihuahua i talked about - she got a c-section!! it was very cool because i got to watch through the window when the first puppy was pulled out. i also saw a sphynx kitten. for those of you who don't know what a sphynx cat is, think of mr bigglesworth. they feel so weird when you pet them.
today wasn't as good though. an elderly man who had already lost his wife and 2 dogs brought in his third dog and we had to euthanize it because it was so old and sick. it was the saddest thing ever. i cried all the way home.
i really love working at the vet though. i think it really is a good place for me. i get to play with 40+ animals a day and i am learning a lot. hopefully the spca works out.
guantanamo ruling. nice.
as the election season nears, i am going to help you all out by giving you the obama/mccain on as many issues as possible - mostly to paint mccain as the douche he truly is, but also to entertain. here are the candidates public reactions to the ruling.
obama: this is progress!
mccain: wtf?!
after tonight all of the lakers should be fired. except luke. he was warming the bench. and after they are fired, jack nicholson should flog them mercilessly in the middle of the street.
went down to the spca today to play with my little ones whom i miss dearly. all of a sudden they are hiring for cat keepers. 6 weeks too late, but better late than never. the lady in charge of cats told me she was looking for my application but couldn't find it in the stack, so she had me put in a new one to get my contact info on file. i hope i will know by next week if i will be working/volunteering there on my days off.
on yucca mountain
obama: definitely against it
mccain: all for it
on bringing troops home from iraq
obama: we need to withdraw and bring our troops home
mccain, to matt lauer this morning: "it's not that important"
just so you all know where they stand. for more information on mccain and his quest to serve bush's 3rd term, listen to my crush john cusack.
there are two things i've been wanting to do to with my free time to help others out since neither of them worked out for my primary time commitment. i tried to volunteer at the spca. while i've been down there several times to play with the cats, i've not been able to do any real work. they won't call me back to arrange anything. so i figured i'd spend my free time volunteering for obama's campaign since full time employment with them in boston was not an option. his southwest office is less than 10 miles from here. i went there yesterday and the office is gone. i guess they moved it after the primary results. his web site does not give me contact info for the other vegas offices.
all i want to do is provide extra hands to help. why are they making it so hard to help? seriously.
yay - 6 point win. the lakers cannot lose at home. not only was jack nicholson in his usual courtside seat, but rambo and the beverly hills cop were there. plus they couldn't lose with magic and kareem watching. mwahaha.
yesterday i saw a pregnant chihuahua. triplets! the xray showed 3 tiny spines inside. her body looked like a kangaroo because her belly was so huge compared to her tiny head. kinda like this.
lakers go home 0 and 2. come on guys, if you don't pull at least one out of your asses, jack nicholson is going to use his courtside seats to beat you over the head with his program.
this lady has a point. while i don't agree with everything she says or how she says it, it is interesting.
today was my first official day of my new career (but it's technically my second day). i am working at the vet's office around the block from the house. very convenient. i walked to and from work today, and it felt good to "be green" by not driving the ol' car luis.
today was very difficult. the work isn't tough, it's actually nice - but the first and last appointments of the day were euthanasias. i cried when i saw the first dog who could barely walk in the door. i cried when i saw the second dog being carried in on a stretcher. i cried again when i walked into the back for something and saw the dog so still and peaceful. and i had to leave when the tech moved it from the table into a bag for the crematory service.
on the bright side, we saw so many healthy and happy critters today. one girl even brought in a gecko who needed an abscess removed so he could poop. this place is exciting. always something new to see or learn. i love working at the vet!
go lakers! kick some boston ass!
update: 10 points. come on guys, let's get it together!
clinton emailed her supporters to tell them she'd be conceding on saturday. thankfully one of them forwarded the email to me. thank you lisa. now you can do the barack dance.
guess who just got vip tickets to the new kids on the block reunion tour, complete with backstage passes?! yeah baby. i finally get to meet them.
i said in 2004 he would be my next president. we are now one step closer. i am so pleased, i have no words that can express my joy.
bitch is finally giving up... but she's not officially ending her campaign, cause there's always the vp spot. (insert eyeroll lhere)
